WHELPING RELAXER
Some bitches do great without anything to help relax them. However, the bitches
that are tense can actually slow down the whelping progress to the point of
causing pups to be still born. The recipe below is for chows or dogs of
that size.
MILK EVAPORATED - 1 cup
HONEY - 1 tablespoon
BRANDY - 1 to 4 shots depending on the dogs weight
It may be necessary to give the brandy gradually to get the bitch to drink it
all. Some like the milk warmed a
little. The warmer the brandy, the stronger the alcohol taste and will not be
drank as easy. I have given whelping relaxer by large eye dropper straight down
the throat for bitches who will not drink it freely. Some bitches will vomit up
anything 24 hours prior to whelping.
