SOCIALIZING

I cannot stress enough the facts about socializing a chow.  We have noticed this is important with all chows, however some bloodlines seem to have this as a need more so than others.

All of the Chows here at Majesty is very socialized and love company. We also have had an opportunity to learn that our beloved chows will still protect us if the need occurs.

Majesty Chows starts socializing skills from day one. If a puppy is not worked with by age 2 weeks problems already start to develop. Majesty Chows will touch the pups feet, head and lay them on their back starting at birth. Lots of loving and petting helps abundantly. These steps are evident in my puppies and adult chows.  We also bring the puppies to friends homes and have people and kids come over to get them accustom to being social.

It is bred into the chow to be a guard dog.  Also people misinterpret a chows quick moving head as being vicious when in actuality it is because chows have peripheral vision/tunnel vision.  Chows startle easily so they move their head quickly to see what is beside them. Peripheral vision has given chows an unfair judgment.

However, it is still a fact that chows must be socialized. Chows are loyal to their master(s) but it will be nearly impossible to have around guests if not properly socialized. Even if a chow is socialized they are noted to protect their master(s) with their life.

Remember socializing your chow does not change his want or ability to be the best trusted protection dog a family can have.
