Hi LaRinda

It's us from Abbotsford, BC Canada.  I hope all is well with you guys.  We are doing great.  Christmas is always soooo busy especially with a brand new baby.  The website looks absolutely fabulous.  I think you should put a page in for comments from the owners of your past pups.  We would say what a talented and friendly chows you produce.  Kovu is a chow that feels the world is a wonderful and safe place to be and he loves kids.  He can't wait for them to get home from school so he can play and follow them around the house.  It doesn't matter which kids whether they are ours or the neighbors.  When people come to visit they always tell me that Kovu makes them feel like royalty.  My sister in law has a champion agility dog and she is now trying to convince us that Kovu would be perfect for her to train.  (We aren't too keen on upsetting the balance in his life being that we feel he is perfect.)  The same sister in law just found out she is having twins so I think agility won't be a topic for a while anyhow.  Here is a picture of him.  He has grown so much.  I just quickly took this one tonight so you could see him.  I will send you a better one another day.

Hi LaRinda

I've been thinking about you this week.  I have been meaning to take pictures of Kovu and sending them to you.  He was a whopping 35 lbs on his 4 month birthday.  He is amazing.  His hair is getting longer and I have to brush him every day or his hair pills up like a teddy bear.  We gave him some Advantage last week because he was very itchy but he's better now.  Poor guy.  We put a kiddy pool  in the backyard but he doesn't thing its a great idea to go into it.  He is happy for it be his drinking bowl. I'm glad your surgery went well.  Recovery is always a tough time.  I will take pictures of him tomorrow and send them to you.  Do you have any pictures of Clyde?  I would love to see what he looks like.  How does he weigh?  Fancy sure is cute.  I will email you tomorrow.  Laurie

Dear LaRinda,        CHRISTMAS 2002

We are going to take this opportunity to show you our new Christmas stationery.  Is it really precious or what?

Yesterday, I had to wait outside of a store for about 45 minutes for Rich while he shopped for some computer "stuff".  So I put Kodi on his short leash and walked him around him the little bushes and grass area between the store and McDonalds.  There wasn't one solitary person (young or old, rich or poor, smart or dumb, drunk or sober, short or tall) that didn't literally MELT right into their shoes when they looked up and saw Kodi sitting on my right foot like a centurion!!!  About 80% of the people said "Oh, my Gawwwwd.....he looks just like a bear!"  Then they'd ask his name and when I told them Kodiak II, they'd crack up laughing.  One man went back to his car and returned with his West Highland Terrier just to see how they would be together "in case" he  ever wanted to by a chow. Don't worry I immediately wrote down your name and phone number for him.  I think he fell in love with chows only at that moment when he spotted my dog.  And another young Asian fellow abut 20 came out of McDonalds and came over to tell me his parents had two chows and he was very familiar with the breed.  After he played with Kodi for a minute or two, he just looked up at me and said "This is genuinely well-socialized chow.  I was starting to feel like a mother with her brand new baby!!!

The best part is yet to come.  After I was there about another half hour and most of Fry's employees had walked in or out of the store on breaks, etc...., One of the young guys came out and said "Why don't you take him through the store?"  I said What?  Am I allowed to do that?"  and he replied "people do it all the time....whether they're training a dog or not.  You just have to keep him in the cart."  So I proceeded to have him help me lift Kodi and we put him in the cart and he said facing me, so that  he actually rode backwards.  He never took his eyes off me and sat perfectly still for 12 minutes while I ran him up and down a few aisles.  I was trying to find Rickie so I could surprise him.... but he'd already checked out on the other side of the store.  Then I turned the cart around and was making for the front exit when I came to a middle-aged East Indian  couple who'd seen me a few minutes before as I walked past then in the opposite direction.  As they smiled and glanced into my cart, the man jumped a little and at the top of his lungs yells at his wife "he move, Lili, he move!  "Did you see it?"  She clasped her hand over her mouth and started to laugh so hard, I wondered what was going on.  Then she told me they'd seen me on the other aisle and thought I'd bought on of those large bears for Christmas.  They thought that Kodiak was a large, stuffed animal!  Isn't that a great story?

You know, this is why I'm sending you another $100, which I wish could be $200 or $300 more!  I don't want a bad karma to have to "work out" in the future....you know what I mean?  I'm getting something so precious and so lovely and a real spiritual gift. and I feel if I don't try to pay you something a little more fair, then I'll have a curse  on me or something weird like that.  Seriously, if I had enough, I'd pay you a lot more for Kodiak, LaRinda. I truly would.  You deserve it for all the love and care and training you gave him BEFORE he came to us.  I know my old Bunky Cat (the 19 year old one we lost August 4th) had no physical connection with Kodi but I sometimes get a very very strong "sense" that part of Bunky's spirit is in Kodiak.  There are times I catch the way his eyes follow me around the kitchen. And when Richie brings him in from a walk, he isn't just content to sit down and play with Richie.. he comes racing into whatever room I'm in and jumps up on the bed or chair or my typewriter table and shakes his butt like a helicopter to tell me what good time he had outdoors.  And he doesn't just "bark" when he's happy,
he  T A L K S!!!!!!!!

Honestly, each bark is a different pitch and tone and almost sounds like he's saying to me, "I went outside, I did, I did I DID!!  Please know LaRinda that we've had many happy occasions in our 40 years of marriage, but until now we have never felt totally fulfilled in life!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Love and best wishes for a nice and pleasant holiday....and a very SAFE New Year!  Love Alice & Richie and the fur children.

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A DARLING COUPLE AT THE OREGON COAST AND HERE'S THE PICS OF THEIR CHRISTMAS STATIONERY.

HERE IS ANOTHER GREAT ONE FROM ALICE AND RICHIE.......LOL

You cannot imagine how we will treasure that picture of China Rose!  It is a going into his album I'm in the process of putting together.  Today is his birthday (an important "first" year celebration.) and we're giving him a party at 4 pm. Are we the silliest people you know or WHAT????  There are going to be about 18-20 people (neighbors and friends) here and maybe 6-7 doggies , most of whom Kodi has met'.  We have balloons, bones and a cake (for human consumption, of course)!!!  I can't believe how many people consider him their God Child and love him almost as much as we do!  I just had him groomed the day before yesterday and he was rolling around out in the grass and twigs got all caught in his lovely mane and tail.  So I loudly said to him, "Okie Kodi"....do you want a party of Thursday or not?  Then I heard some man over the fence start chuckling.....I still don't know who it was.  LaRinda thank you again for the beautiful baby.  Love Alice and Richie

Thanks for responding so quickly, LaRinda! Have Rickie or I ever actually told you how very blessed we feel to have a good friend like you?

I FEEL JUST AS BLESSED I MUST SAY- THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE AND GAVE THAT BLESSED BABY A LOVING SAFE HOME FOR KODI.

Here is a link to one more long but very wonderful letter from Alice and Richie March 22, 03 letter.

Hi LaRinda!  We went to the vet last week.  Summa weighed in at 18 lbs already!  He is growing so fast.  They said he is a very healthy dog.  We only have one more round of shots left.  We took him to a puppy socialization class yesterday.  He was the best puppy in the class!  Everybody was so impressed by him.  He is so well behaved and his temperament is so good- people couldn't believe he was a chow.  He just loves people- all people, especially kids.  Justin and I were so proud of him.  The trainer said we must have done a great job of socializing him- I told her about your breeding method.  I told her you handle the puppies right away- that must have done the trick!  I will try to send you pictures this week.  I think he has doubled already!

We are going to get him into obedience training soon.  When should we start?  Should we start now or wait a month?  Talk to you soon!

NOVEMBER 16th 2004 Also from Jenny- Summa's Mom

We just enrolled Summa in the second level of obedience training.  Last night was our first night.  He did so incredibly well!!  After class the instructor wanted to talk to us about Summa.  She said he is the friendliest and smartest Chow she has worked with in 20 years!  We were so proud.  She wanted us to consider showing him because he catches on so quickly and is so pretty.  He is such a good dog!

LaRinda

You can definitely publish my letter on your site!  Again, I will try to send pictures too.  Thanks for the advice about the training- that is very helpful to know.  We actually signed him up for a 9 week class beginning May 20th so that will be perfect.  Talk to you soon!

We may have him go through training to be able to go into nursing homes and Children's hospitals to visit.  What do you think about that?  Everybody that sees him just seems to love him so much, we thought it might be a good idea to have him visit those who need company.  We haven't quite decided yet- I hear it is a ton of work!

Hi LaRinda

It's sure good to see your name on an incoming email again.  I've been doing my bragging about my new baby  to Linda, instead of the one who likely wants to know it.  I have the cutest, most precious puppy on earth. Does that tell  you anything? She responds to "Fancy", but I wouldn't be surprised if she things her name is "You are so cute", cause she hears that real regular.  Even our vet.  When she came into the room and saw Fancy, she said, We can't have that puppy here, it is too cute!

She is such a character, she's almost hysterical.  It's been so long since I had a puppy around, that I forgot just how much fun they are!

I discovered (the last two days), that if I don't get up at night and let her out and potty, she piddles on me before I can get her out the door.  She comes out of the crate so happy and animated, that she doesn't know what she wants to do first....eat, drink, or love me to death.  She is like a wind-up toy, that is over-wound, and going potty is the last thing on her mind.  In her excitement, she ends up piddling down the front of my robe.  I don't think she even knows she is doing it.  You would just have to see it, to appreciate how absolutely funny (and precious) it is.

She doesn't seem to know that she's supposed to be a show dog.  When I try to "bait" her, she wants to sit up and wants to shake hands too.

I have attached a picture that l took this morning.  She just gets cuter every day.  I have taken a picture of her almost every day since I brought her home, and have something awfully cute videos of her too. She was aloof to visitors the first few days, but now she seems to think everybody is her friend.  I think I have EXACTLY what I was looking for.  Thank you , LaRinda She could not have a better home than with me.  Thank You again Mary

Hello LaRinda,

I got your message and thought I'd email you our address and picture of Diego.

Here's just an update Diego...Over the weekend he was neutered and is doing just great.  We were told to limit his activity for a couple of days but it has been hard.  He's got a lot of energy and wants to play, which entails being chased around the apartment.  That's his favorite thing to do.  A few weekends ago we had a behaviorist come over and we discussed nutrition, exercise and training etc....

He is so incredibly smart but, we just needed to learn puppy speak.  He's lost just about all of his puppy teeth and his coat is beginning to change as well.  With the neutering we intend on taking him to puppy day care now and then.  Amanda is still working from home but he needs puppies/dogs to play with.  We've taken him to the dog park near by but there's jus a lot of large dogs that are off leash.  There's also a river that they lie to jump in then run around in parks.  It's also no fenced and is really large area with creeks, trees and lots of spots he could get dirty, hurt, trapped, etc.... Diego doesn't care too much for it and neither do we.  It's fun now and then but he gets so muddy when we go, we know we'll b be bathing him that afternoon when ever we go. He's eating this great stuff called Canidae.  He loves it and it's pretty reasonable.  It's also great for his coat and skin.

Well, I hope all of his brothers and sisters are ding well and have happy homes.  We love Diego more and more every day.  He brings us so much joy!  Take care and thanks for sending the AKC paperwork!  Mary
