Chows are available in 5 colors and 3 coat types

scrolling & reading the lower section of this page.

• Red can be from a pale light red to a dark mahogany and anything in between.
  Variations of types are self red which is fairly even though out the coat or shaded
  coats may have sabling & will have black highlights. Some red shades are more
  brown in color while others are vibrant or more orange.

• Black is black.  However a black coat can show red in their coat from
  from sun fading. May also have frosted tail from the cream gene. To
  eliminate the sun fading you can put sun block and water in a spray
  bottle and mist the coat.

• Blue chows very from a light silver powder blue to  a dark gray. Blues are the
  dilute from black. Sometimes red or cream also shows in the blues. Misting the
  coat with water & sun block helps protect blue chows coats as well.

• Cream chows vary from very white to a light red which are considered a dark cream.

• Cinnamon can be light or dark. Cinnamon is the dilute of the red chow. The variation
  is wide as with the reds. Lighter cinnamons can be a taupe/fawn color and dark cinnamons
  can be a brownish or deep tone. The most common cinnamon looks a lot like sugar and
  cinnamon mixed together.

  Coat types: Rough, Old English & Smooth

   

• Rough is the most common coat type in Chows. Rough coats should be thick
  with a thick undercoat. Medium long in length to very long (3 to 6 inches) is average.
  Some rough coats have a mane & pride while others do not.

• English Coats are very beautiful. Basically a fairly short length rough coat.
  Not as short as a smooth but usually 1 to 2 inches in length.
  Grooming maintenance on the English coats is low. Some english coats will still
  have a small mane & pride while the rest of the coat is fairly short.

• Smooth is the simple coat type. Very short and the easiest to maintain.
  Length of coat can be 1/2 to 2 inches. Smoothes usually have a distinct look
  to their head, tail and usually build in general.
